Create an physical inbox
Have a designated spot for papers you bring into your home. Just like your online inbox it’s good to have a place to put all papers. Then when you have time you can go through them and decide what to keep or not. I know I used to just put papers down wherever was closer when I got inside the door. I feel a lot happier about my surfaces now that I have an inbox!
I haven’t done this myself (yet!), but there’s a great article here at JustaGirlandHerBlog about going completely paperless that I recommend! It’s such an interesting thing to read about even if you don’t feel ready to take that step yet!
Clear one surface
Just one. Give it a chance! And try to keep that surface clutter free. Only place things you are using there and tidy it up after you finish. See how you like it, and if you like it, you can expand that space later to include more of your house. You can pick any surface; a table, a countertop or your nightstand. Just see what feels natural.
Give things a place
Think about the things you bring into your home
Take a moment to think about the things you bring into your home. It doesn’t matter how much you declutter if you constantly fill your home with new things. Is there anything you don’t necessarily need? Make sure you are mindful of what you bring home. Is it necessary? Is it making you happy? Is this needed?
There you have it! Easy things you can start doing today to create a clutter-free home! It doesn’t take much to feel like you are moving in the right direction. Now I want to hear from you? Do you have any tips for me? Or have you tried any of my tips, and how did it go? Please share!

It really is! Thank you, and the same to you, I love your sloagn, being unstoppable is key! 🙂
Thanks so much for these simple and straight forward tips! My coffee table gets messy a lot with mail and other random papers. I just remembered I have this cute box that can house all my mail in it!
That sounds great! Then instead of the mess, you can be happy by looking at the cute box 🙂 Double win!
You are so right. For my children especially, I am obsessed with clearing at least one surface in their room – it’s amazing how that always sparks a new project, a new idea. You need to have blank slates here and there to for creativity and ideas.
Oh, that is so true! Having a clear space to create is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing 🙂
